Why I Hate Glee

I realize that I'm maybe one of maybe 2 people that despise this show, but I figure I've got a right to my opinion and I'll give you my opinion.

I've never been a fan of people turning pop music into musical is unimaginative and wrong. I also had a music teacher that tried to get our class singing pop music and it was horrific.

It's nice to give huge stars some extra promotion by being a focus on the know like Lady Gaga, Madonna and Britney need any more exposure! It is also nice that some kids get to know older songs..but hey...wouldn't it just be great if they heard good music sung by the original artists first!

I'm also not a fan of shows set in high school.

My friends, those were the worst years of my life, I don't need a show reminding me of it.

Yes, I know that the whole world loves this show and that its won a bazillion awards for its greatness, but I still hate it. Nothing will change how I feel either.

The Weekend Wasteland

I really wish that the networks would come up with something interesting to watch on Saturday and Sunday nights.

The only time I can ever find anything to watch is when BBC America decides to run a new Sci Fi series that I haven't found in other places.

Right now, even BBC America sucks.

Which means for those of us without lives on the weekend, the only entertainment for us = re-runs.

Boo hiss!

This is why I always end up watching Disney Channel on Sunday Night. Yeah, I'm all about Sonny With A Chance and Good Luck Charlie.

How sad is that? Especially as I'm 36 and I don't have children?

I realize that the networks don't want to shell out too much money for programming on nights when there aren't many viewers, but  crikey, it would be nice to have something to watch.

How Easily Do You Cry

I think I'm a wuss.

I can be moved to tears easily, a good tv show, movie, book. If something sad happens or something extremely great! I cry. I can't help it. That's how I am.

I've been reading a set of young adult/tween books about cat warriors and the writer really enjoys killing off the cats, and I find myself blubbering my way through the books.

I think I must be a bit strange. Am I the only one that cries while reading?

It makes me wonder about other people?

Is it just a girly thing? Or is it just me?

How easily are you moved to tears? Or are you a toughie that doesn't cry at anything!

Inquiring minds want to know! So this mind can determine how weird she actually is!

A Great Suspense Read

Harlequin's Mira line has a wonderful writer in Deanna Raybourn. She's written a fabulous historical mystery series featuring Lady Julia Grey. Now for those of you that say, "Harlequin! No way!" I say, suck it and try one of the Lady Grey mysteries. They should be read in order, but I never do things the easy way. I read the second book first and am now reading the fourth.

The best thing about the Lady Grey books are the characters. There's no wishy washy women here, and the men all have interesting character flaws that make you like them all the more.

Lady Julia is actually a bit annoying at times, and her dislike of dogs made me want to hit her a few times while reading Silence In The Sanctuary, but it didn't stop me from loving the book.

Deanna is definitely a must try author. Oh and there's no real romance in these books either.

Raise Your Hand If You Are Sick Of Politicians

I don't know about you, but in PA, the governor's race is pretty sad.

The two candidates are Dan Onorato and Tom Corbett.

Both are horrible if you ask me, and yet I've got to choose between Tweedle Nit and Tweedle Wit in November.

Couldn't there be a None Of The Above on the ballot?

Anyone from the Pittsburgh area will tell you that Dan O. comes up with some pretty nifty ways of taxing people. If you want an earful, just as a restaurant owner in Allegheny county about the drink tax. I bet he'll have a lot of interesting things to say about him.

I'm only glad that PA has managed to stay out of the Tea Party movement.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, these people scare the shit out of me. They make the regular Republicans look like good and decent people. (Some of them are, I know but I'm just saying)

I can't wait until this election is over, however I'm not sure I'm looking forward to what the idiots we vote into office are going to do after the election.

Before He Was Famous

Watch this video for Love Me Right by Euphoria and you will see a very young (21) Simon Baker, dancing shirtless and badly.

Trust me, its worth it to see him shirtless. This stuff is seriously why life is good!

Oops She Did It Again

So are dear buddy Miley Cyrus is back in the news for making a slutty video for her song Who Owns My Heart.  After viewing the video, I have to say, "get a grip people!" It isn't all that slutty and it really isn't much different from anything else out there. It isn't even cutting edge. The only problem is, it is Miley Cyrus and not Hannah Montana.

Have a look!

I'm not commenting on the goodness or otherwise of the song, but the video is for the most part harmless. I wish the kid would turn 18 so that the entertainment sites and possibly all the crazy parents out there would just get over stuff like this.

To think, I survived growing up watching Madonna videos! But then again, Madonna didn't start out in a "wholesome family comedy."

Oh well.

Sesame Street Rocks!

Fashion Faux Pas

There are two fashion crimes that in my mind should be punishable by death.

1. Wearing jammies in public, especially with fuzzy flip flop slippers. I'm so glad you are that lazy that you can't be bothered to put on a pair of jeans and SHOES to go to WALMART! I also realize that most everyone at Walmart is committing a fashion faux pas, but do you really have to contribute to the eye sore?

No I don't think so.

Go home and get dressed.

2.  Ugg boots or any other kind of winter boot with shorts. Actually any kind of boot with shorts, I just remembered Britney Speers and her cowboy boots.

No No for the love of God....NO!!!

If you commit any of these crimes, please stay indoors.

I Heart Bijoux Terner

Sure there's the Dollar Store, but what fun is that when you are looking for holiday gift stuff? You can make fun bath and body baskets, but what about jewelry? handbags? Scarves?

That's what Bijoux Terner is about and its one of the huge things I miss about Atlantic City.

Bijoux was in the Bally/Wild West Casino and it was the most fantastic store in AC! Anyone can afford to shop there.

Everything is $10!

And everything is fashionable!

Sadly there's only one store in Pittsburgh and it in the damn airport, which means you can't shop there, unless you are going to be flying somewhere.

That truly sucks! Because I love to accessorize cheaply!!

Restaurant Review: Houlihan's @ The Galleria

It's literally been years since I was in a Houlihan's , but when the Mexican place I had hoped to dine at was no more, Birthday Girl Friend of The Mistress Of The Dark "BGFOTMOTD" and I decided to give it a shot. Being a Saturday Night, I expected a long wait, but it really wasn't more than 15 minutes, and they let us look at the menu while we waited so that was a plus.

The prices are higher than the average chain. Houlihan's is comparable to Cheesecake Factory in price, but the portions are a little less than TGIFridays and the selections are less than both. This restaurant bore no resemblance to the original location up the road. The atmosphere is perfect for a date night, but since that wasn't the case, "BGFOTMOTD" and I cracked jokes and gagged at the couples in nearby tables and pondered how teenagers could afford to eat there. Then I remembered we were in Mt. Lebanon...and that question was answered. Everyone is rich in Mt. Lebanon. If you are poor, they push you out of the town.

We started out with a lovely spicy lettuce wrap. The lettuce was beautifully shaped and crunchy and the filling was just spicy enough to make you reach for a glass of water, but not too spicy. The appetizer had four servings, so it was two for each of us, which was just fine though the $9.50 price tag was a bit steep for an appetizer.  If you had a bigger party, this might not be the appetizer for you. Maybe try some of the Disco Fries? Or Sliders?

We both ordered the enchiladas, mine were chicken and BGFOTMOTD got the wild mushroom, as she has a fetish for fungi.  The price was a moderate $13.95.

The enchilada's came with a cabbage slaw that was wonderfully refreshing.  The rice had great flavor, and I have to say, I remarked more than once that I could have eaten a whole bowl of the rice. The beans were also full of flavor and spicy. My only beef with the beans was due to the portion side. I'm not found of half a plate of beans, but the small portion here left a little to be desired.

We finished our meal with the S'mores Fondue. A rather lovely treat for only $5.00. It is probably one of the best values on the menu and one of the best desserts. My next recommendation is the Cappuccino Cake, which is a longstanding item on the Houlihan's menu.

The fondue is a to die for chocolate ganache with the melted marshmallows on top. Your items for dipping include strawberries and long graham cracker strips with sugar on top. Delicious and Yummo come to mind when thinking of this desert.

Houlihan's has definitely revamped itself in the past few years and set itself apart from some other chains. In fact, it almost doesn't feel like a chain. Definitely worth a visit!
