Goddess Fish Promotion Book Blast: Nobody's Princess

Nobody’s Princess
by Sarah Hegger

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Tiffany Desjardins has a plan. Well, she had a plan, until her past and all its complications came back to haunt her. Her not-quite-ex-husband, Luke, is missing, and suddenly everyone needs to find him--including Tiffany, if she wants to marry the true man of her dreams. Then there's Thomas Hunter, Luke's brawny friend, who won't take "no road trip" for an answer--and who won't stop showing up in her daydreams…

Thomas couldn't care less about Luke's personal life, but he needs to find him if he's going to make his fledgling minerals and metals company a reality. And if that means following Tiffany, who's taken off in Luke's rare Lamborghini Miura, he's more than willing--especially if there might be a chance to negotiate some of Tiffany's lovely curves. As Tiffany and Thomas speed along without a map, the only destination that seems certain is being together…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
Is that the casting agent?” Piers demanded.
No.” Tiffany glared as Lola’s name lit up her screen. The woman’s timing couldn’t suck more. As much as she needed to speak to Lola—and she really, really needed to speak to her—she didn’t want to answer the call now. Five days she’d waited for Lola to call back. Lola pretty much ignored every call she didn’t feel like taking. Conversely, when Lola wanted to speak to you, she wanted it now and would blow up your phone until she got hold of you.
She hit Ignore and slipped the phone into her pocket. Why today of all days? It must be some kind of cosmic joke. Could you calculate coincidence? You must be able to. Nearly everything broke down to numbers in the end. Her gaze strayed toward the tote again. Her book seemed to shimmer and pulse for attention. Perhaps she could just quickly . . .
Hi, I’m looking for Tiffany?” A deep voice spoke from behind her.
Tiffany whirled on her four-inch heels and looked up. And up some more. Oh, thank you, sweet Jesus. Her white boy was here and he was gorgeous. His blond hair was cropped close to his scalp. It brought all your attention straight to that face. And what a face. You could break rocks on that jawline. The straight blade of his nose rescued him from pretty, but the mouth beneath it curved full and etched, made for nibbling on.
Review: I've never read Sarah Hegger before. This is the last book in her Willow Park Romance. Tiffany is a bit of a poor little rich girl, who is trying to change her life.  I wasn't sure if I was going to like her at first, but as she grew and found her real self she really was endearing. I really felt sorry for her too.
It was great to see her transform from the girl that just had to be beautiful into a real thinking breathing woman. Her soon to be ex's brother Dakota calls her Barbie, and when you get the descriptions of Tiffany, Barbie is a pretty good one for her.
Thomas was really great too, from the very start when she mistakes him for a male model. Oo la la. He's even better when you get to know him, because he's a nice guy and he really cares about Tiffany, and more about her than about her looks.
The two of them are great foils for themselves, but they have awesome chemistry.
Then there's Luke. I wanted a bit more of a mystery involving him, but that wasn't the case. Most of the drama involved Dakota. OK, a lot of the drama involves Dakota.
The best part of the book is Tiffany becoming her own woman, standing up to her father, who feels she's only as good as her pretty face, but as you learn her love of numbers and the way she works things out,without having much of an education, you know shes definitely much more than that. Thomas helps her to want more from her life. That's another reason to love him as a hero.
This was a great intro to this author for me.
A hot Canadian engineer, whose marriage proposal she accepted six short weeks after they first met. Together they’ve made homes in seven different cities across three different continents (and back again once or twice). Excerpt
The Vet’s Valentine Gift by J.L. Campbell
I sat there thinking Dane had a nerve. From what I understood, he'd been a constant source of disappointment to Jade since his separation and divorce from Toni. Considering that, I didn't know why Toni would defend him.
When she came back to the living room, Jade was with her.
One look at her told me she was still unhappy. Her little mouth drooped at the corners and she kept her gaze lowered. She climbed onto the sofa to sit beside me and after a moment I slipped my arm around her shoulder.
Toni sat on her other side and fixed her eyes on the television where the business segment of the news was on air.
Jade poked me in the leg. "Doc, I didn't ask you before, but you got any children?"
"Do you have any children," Toni said.
Jade nodded to acknowledge her and then turned back to me. "Do you have any?"
"I shook my head. I have nieces and nephews though. Does that count?"
"Nah, but if you had a little girl like me, you'd want to see her all the time, right?"
A deep breath was in order, because I was heading into a minefield and had to choose my words so as not to rile Toni any further.
Gently, I plucked Jade's nose. "Of course, if she was as cute as you are."
Jade turned to Toni. "See, I told you he'd make a good daddy."
Toni shot fire at me with her eyes, and my only response was a shrug. I wasn't about to make Jade feel any worse after her argument with her father.
Jade didn't say anything for a bit, but frowned hard at the television. It wasn't long before she poked me in the leg again. "Doc, can I ask you something?"
"You can ask me anything."
Toni sat forward, as if sensing Jade was going to ask a question she wouldn't like, but she stayed quiet. When Jade looked at her, Toni pressed her plump lips together and put on the same expression my mother used years ago to let me know we'd have words later if I did any
foolishness.
Shuffling sideways, Jade angled her body toward me. She narrowed her eyes as if to gauge whether or not she should ask what she wanted to know. I guess she was satisfied with whatever she saw because she sat up straighter and looked me square in the face. "Doc, since you don't have a little girl yet, would you like to be my daddy?"
Review: 14 sweet romances are a great way to spend Valentine's Day. At least that's how I spent my day. The best part is these stories all involved couples and pets. If that doesn't warm your heart, I don't know what does.
This is a wonderful anthology of stories that will make you feel warm and fuzzy when you finish them. You can pick and choose which you want to read or read them all. (Why wouldn't you want to read them all?)
I read Her Perfect Catch as part of this tour as well as The Vet's Valentine. These two books were totally fabulous sweet reads. I loved them so much that I ended up buying the anthology. I'm a sucker for animal stories.
If you read Her Perfect Catch, Mack, the dog that Melanie was dog sitting gets her in hot water with a smoking hot football player. 'Nuff said right?
This was a wonderful set of books to pass a cold winter's afternoon.
Loved the stories!!
BLURB:
Ally
The first time I saw Gabe in my sensual cupcake bakery, I had no idea who he was. All I knew was chiseled perfection like him could never really want a girl like me. That didn't stop me from craving and lusting after everything I could never have. Success.
Gabe.
And I was trapped in a twisted frenemy relationship with my douche bag ex fiancee. I never would have dreamed who Gabe really was, what he wanted and why he wanted it.
Gabe
My f*cked up family taught me a lot. Take rather than give. Anything. Everything.
Ally made me feel clean. Whole. I'd do anything to have her and even more to keep her. In spite of my past but more importantly ... because of it.
I took her tenuous control and worshiped her killer curves. I never suspected she'd steal my heart.
Excerpt:
Blackness and strange noises rang through the gloom. What was this? I floated through it, as though I didn’t have a body, couldn’t feel any sensations. I was pretty sure I’d died, but heaven was black and smoky. Or had I gone to hell?
Then, there were voices, strange tones which skipped and repeated.
Miss?” A gravelly voice, deep and comforting pierced the despotic darkness. “Can you hear me?”
Strong arms enveloped me, lifting me from the floor. I cracked an eyelid and slammed it shut again immediately. The smoke remained thick and the burning was so bad I couldn’t see through the moisture pooling in my eyes, the flood of tears protecting them. The crackle of fire returned in a rush and my body turned rigid in response.
It’s okay. I’ve got you,” he murmured, and folded me closer to his hard chest. Safe. I felt safe in his arms. He took measured steps. “Is there anyone else in here? Anyone who needs help.”
I shook my head as a bout of coughing took over any ability to speak. Shouts rang out, men rushed by, disturbing the smoke, creating a whirlwind of warm air which brushed the sweaty strands of hair clinging to my forehead. It felt like a film of smoke and perspiration had encased my entire body.
Codsworth,” I choked.
What?” he asked. He had to be a fireman. Fresh air now. Or, was it him? He had the most amazing smell. I couldn’t open my eyes, could hardly breathe, but the scent of some woodsy cologne — Gucci? — permeated my nostrils through the haze of soot that lingered there.
Codsworth,” I repeated. “My cat. He’s upstairs.” I clutched his arm with all my remaining strength. “Please …”
Don’t worry,” he replied. “I’ll get him for you.” He quickened his pace and I clung to him with arms like noodles, resting my head against the fire retardant suit. He was as hard as a rock and for some reason, I felt like everything would be okay as he took charge.
The air grew clearer; there was a rush of wind and sound. Sirens blared, people chattered.
Oh my God, can you believe it,” a woman said nearby.
It doesn’t look too bad.” That was a man’s voice. Spectators probably, but my eyes were too scratchy to open yet and I didn’t even want to try.
Here, take her,” the firefighter carrying me said, his deep voice raspier with the smoke. Then he placed me on a bed, a stretcher. Fingers brushed my ear, and the heat of his breath penetrated. “I’ll come back after I’ve found Codsworth. You’re safe now,” he promised, all calm confidence.
My skin erupted in tingles as gooseflesh spread across my skin. I forced my eyes open, staring through the blur of tears, but he was already gone.
Who—?”
You’re fine now, just relax.” A woman in a paramedic outfit appeared beside me and placed an oxygen mask on my face.
I frowned at her, my eyes had cleared pretty fast, though my chest still felt croaky. My limbs were floppy too. None of it mattered compared to losing the bakery. Or Codsworth.
I tried to pull the mask off, but she stopped me.
No, you rest now. There’ll be enough time for talking later.” The medic lifted a flashlight and checked one eye then the other. “Looks okay there.”
I let her carry on with her protocol, but I felt stronger by the minute. I’d inhaled a bit of smoke. I’d not been burned to a crisp. The blessed oxygen flooded my lungs, clearing my mind and body. But still, I was exhausted. To the bone.
Goddess Fish Promotions Cover Reveal: Murder At Morningside
Murder at Morningside
by Sandra Bretting
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Cozy Mystery

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Hat designer Missy DuBois opened her shop, Crowning Glory, along Louisiana's Great River Road to cater to the sophisticated Southern bride. But bless her heart, who knew creating stylish wedding veils would lead to murder?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt:

Before Beatrice could say more, the front door flew open and in stomped an elderly gentleman. He was on the verge of a good old-fashioned hissy fit.

Y’all don’t deserve a say in this wedding!” he said to a young woman who’d slunk in behind him.

The girl looked to be the right age for his daughter. She wore flip-flops and a wrinkled peasant blouse, and she buried her head in her hands. Well, that lifted the blouse an inch or two and exposed her bare stomach.

Lorda mercy. It seemed the girl and her fiancé must have eaten supper before they said grace, as we said here in the South, because an unmistakable bump appeared under her top. She looked to be about four months along, give or take a few weeks, and I could see why her daddy wasn’t too happy with her right about now.

After a piece, she lifted her chin and glared at him. “I hate you!” Her voice rippled as cold as the river water that ran nearby. “I wish you were dead.” She stalked away.

I fully expected the man to cringe, or at least follow her. Instead, he merely glanced our way and shrugged. After a minute, he pivoted on the spectacle he’d caused and casually strolled away, leaving a bit of frost in the air.

Oh my. Why don’t we continue,” Beatrice said.

Poor Beatrice. She obviously wanted to divert our attention elsewhere. It couldn’t have been every day one of her hotel guests wished another guest was dead. She hustled us farther into the ballroom, as if nothing had happened, all the while explaining the history of Morningside Plantation.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
It felt so peaceful to just sit quietly beside John after the bustle of the rest of the party. The silence felt…well, she wasn’t sure how it felt. The best way to describe it was that it felt just right. The music and chatter from the other rooms drifted on the edge of their ears, but otherwise it was peaceful and restful. She realized John was still holding her hand in his. And that felt right, too. She turned to look at him and found his eyes on her. Their eyes met and the world faded around them. It was just the two of them.
